Shepherds Friendly Society paid 95.8% of income protection (IP) claims in 2018.
The majority of claims related to musculoskeletal pain (non-spinal), which accounted for 27.15% of all the claims received.
This was followed by spinal issues (14.5%), mental health-related problems (11.97%), viral infections and flus (9.61%), and fractures (6.91%).
The society increased its membership by 7% last year.
Daniel Palk, head of claims and underwriting at Shepherds Friendly, said the claims stat is a reassuring figure which shows the society is there to provide cover to members when needed.
“We pride ourselves on ensuring that from start to finish we are able to support our members in their time of need,” he added.
Shepherds Friendly launched an online notification feature last year, whereby members are given the option to notify the society digitally when they would like to start a claim.
