The Islands Health Plan is an international private medical insurance policy for those who live or work in the Channel Islands or Isle of Man. It is designed for individuals and SMEs (schemes with fewer than 150 members – above that a bespoke scheme is AXA PPP’s preferred route).
Four versions are available – Core, Classic, Premier and Ultimate.
* Core. This pays for surgery and hospital charges; parental accommodation; brain and body scans and includes cancer cover. There is a choice of hospitals and the plan also includes ambulance transport and transportation benefits.
* Classic. This adds outpatient consultations, complementary practitioner and physiotherapy cover, out of Europe cover (for up to eight weeks), cash benefit and enhanced cancer cover.
* Premier and Ultimate. These add GP charges; psychiatric treatment; enhanced cancer cover; maternity cash benefit; cover for accidental damage to teeth; non-routine dental treatment, and optical cover. GP fees can be up to £500 a year or unlimited. Premier and Ultimate both offer the same benefits, with Ultimate offering higher maxima or unlimited cover in some cases.
All four versions cover treatment in facilities in the islands and also in/daypatient care in hospitals across Europe, giving customers choice over what facility best suits their needs.
Customers also get access to a 24 hour helpline, the MyGlobe online resource and expert case management for serious diagnoses.
What They Say
Sales and marketing director Kevin Melton said: “Developed with client and intermediary feedback, whether it’s a lower cost option or more comprehensive benefits are required, we believe The Islands Health Plan offers a flexible and competitive proposition to the buoyant Channel Islands and Isle of Man market.”
What We Say
"International PMI is increasingly moving to geographic specific solutions and that applies just as much to our ‘local’ geographies as to more far flung territories.
"AXA PPP’s slightly clumsily-titled The Islands Health Plan offers those in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man a product to suit their specific needs. One particular need is being able to get to a mainland facility (or to one of the other islands) for treatment where that cannot be supplied locally, and this plan includes that.
"Four versions are available, so the best needs/cost compromise can be reached. We particularly like the fact that plans do not have a maximum annual benefit – such maxima always pose the question of ‘what if..’ such arbitrary limits are exceeded (rare as that may be).
"We had some problems seeing all the promised literature when we initially checked online but on a second day were able to download the helpful brochure, so that may have been a one off or maintenance issue. The brochure sets out the differences in benefit levels between versions, making choosing which to have as easy as possible.
"One downside for some may be having no further choices e.g. to have an excess or co-payment."
