Evolution Health is a new five level international private medical insurance plan. The five versions’ maximum annual benefits are: Standard (£500,000); Standard Plus (£750,000); Comprehensive (£1m); Premium (£1.5m), and Elite (£2m). Plans are available in Sterling, US Dollar and Euro denominations.
All plans cover most inpatient treatment on a full refund basis. The lowest cost plan (Standard) does not cover home nursing (the other plans do, from a maximum of three weeks up to 26 weeks a year); psychiatric treatment; premature babies during their first two months, physiotherapy; organ transplants, and inpatient rehabilitation. Standard also excludes most outpatient treatment (except surgery, which is covered in full); chronic conditions; congenital conditions; routine dentistry, and wellness benefits.
Elite has the highest benefits, and they include £250 a night hospice cover, HIV/AIDS following a blood transfusion (up to £7,500 a year and a lifetime limit of £37,500); home nursing (up to 26 weeks a year), and up to £300,000 for organ transplants.
Someone aged 40 would pay £896.76 a year for Standard cover worldwide, excluding the USA, while someone of the same age choosing Elite cover would pay £3,274.10 a year. Excesses can reduce that by up to 40% (if a £5,000 annual excess is chosen). Many financially limited benefits have a sliding scale between the five available plan versions (e.g. while organ transplants are not cover under the Standard Plan, the financial limits are £100,000, £200,000, £250,000 and £300,000 for the other plans).
What They Say
Managing director Jon Carpenter said: “We are firmly of the opinion that customers like to be able to see a graduation in the cover available in order to truly assess what they want. This is why we have developed a plan with a range of levels rather than expecting them to understand which elements of a modular plan that they need to buy upfront. All the levels have the key elements of inpatient treatment, cancer cover and emergency evacuation benefit.”
What We Say
"Morgan Price’s Elite version of its Evolution Health plan offers very comprehensive benefits, with a sliding scale down to the Standard Plan, which offers very basic cover. This enables clients to choose where on the scale they feel most comfortable, balancing benefits and cost.
"This approach makes life simple, although in practice, people’s needs change due to their age, lifestyle or family commitments. It is odd too, to have fixed financial benefits regardless of the currency chosen. So, Sterling denominated plans offer the highest limits, but also the highest premiums.
"The new Elite plan offers the greatest benefits overall, so clients can now choose the highest benefits if their budget allows. In practice, many people will choose somewhere in between, but at least having more options makes it easier to assess value. Even so, the overall annual maximum benefit is just £2m, with the Standard plan topping out at half a million pounds (or Dollars or Euros). That could mean some very expensive treatments exceed the annual limit – although in practice that is very unlikely."
