Hollard Cigna Health is an international private medical insurance (iPMI) suite of plans designed for Africa. The plans are aimed at key local nationals, regional expats and globally mobile staff of corporations with a footprint across Sub-Saharan African countries.
The product is a ‘fully admitted’ health insurance plan, which means it has been designed to meet local requirements.
Six different plans are available: Core Care; Standard Care; Select Care; Essential Care; Executive Care, and Elite Care. Maximum annual benefit per member per year of insurance ranges from $50K (Core Care) up to $6m (Elite Care). All plans include medical evacuation and repatriation.
Dental and vision cover can be added on a Standard (up to $500 pa) or Extra (up to $1K) basis with the benefit being paid in full, or at 80% or 50% depending on the benefit. For lenses, frames and prescription sunglasses an annual limit of $100 or $200 applies.
Five cover areas are available ranging from Africa only (area of cover 1); adding Pakistan, Sri Lank, Bangladesh and Lebanon (area 2); Europe including Africa (3); worldwide excluding US (4), and worldwide (5).
Customers can access information and make contact through a Cigna Health Benefits app or online (where they can also claim).
What They Say
Hollard International CEO Brooks Mparutsa said: “Each African market has its own unique legislative demands, its own history and its own expectations. That’s why it’s important to have local knowledge – and it is part of the reason why our recognised presence in Africa offers tremendous added value.”
Cigna Global Health Benefits president David Maltby added: “This partnership allows us to strengthen global relationships, extend our reach and simplify the opportunity for our clients to access compliant regional solutions not available before now.”
What We Say
"Hollard is South Africa’s largest privately owned insurance group, with turnover exceeding R15bn. It is therefore a good partner for Cigna in Africa, offering local expertise and knowledge from a well-established base.
"With a range of six products and five geographic areas, plus optional dental and optical cover too, a wide range of solutions is available, without looking over complicated.
"Benefits are fairly typical, with most treatments paid in full, albeit with annual limits on many benefits. Members also get a personal membership card, which includes all contact details, so smoothing hospital admittance (the card is also available online). Clients can claim 24/7.
"Increasingly, iPMI plans use international providers and local expertise, which not only helps ensure products meet national needs but also that in an increasingly mobile world, clients can get the best treatment they need wherever they are."
