The Product

Unum has launched Help@hand as a new range of app-based services giving employees and their families improved access to medical support at the touch of a screen.

Four key services are available:

  • Remote GP – Access to a remote GP within two hours of requesting an appointment. Unlimited face-to-face video consultations with a UK-based GP, at any time, day or night, 365 days a year.
  • Second opinion – Two consultations per year, face-to-face or video, provided by a UK-based specialist following a diagnosis from a treating doctor.
  • Mental health support – Up to eight consultations per year including an initial assessment.
  • Physiotherapy – Up to eight consultations per year including an initial assessment.

Unum says Help@hand aims at providing a unique, simple and straightforward customer experience – for employees to get the support they need when and where they need it. The service is available with Unum’s Group Income Protection policies at no additional cost.

The new services are offered in partnership with specialist provider Square Health.

What we say

Group income protection is a solid, well-established product primarily thought of as providing financial benefits if employees cannot work.

But, as with individual IP too, increasingly the product can and should go further. These four benefits add nothing to the cost, yet provide a range of practical help and support services for day-to-day and less common health issues.

None is particularly revolutionary but combining them in an app makes the services quick and simple to access, anywhere, anytime.
