Health+ is a private medical insurance (PMI) product for individuals and families. It comprises an extensive core cover module, which includes unlimited cover for cancer, inpatient and daypatient treatment plus outpatient surgery and private ambulance. Also included is home nursing, parental accommodation, post-operative physiotherapy and NHS cash benefit (£150 a night up to 30 nights).
Advisers can then tailor cover to meet client needs though optional benefit add-ons. These are:
* Additional outpatient cover to pay for specialist fees and diagnostics. Three cover levels are available, including unlimited.
* Additional mental health cover, paying for up to 28 days’ accommodation and nursing.
[* Additional therapies cover. Following a GP or specialist referral, members get access to a physiotherapist, chiropractor, osteopath, acupuncturist, podiatrist, speech therapist, pain clinic or up to two consultations with a dietician. Choice of three cover levels.
The plan offers a choice of six optional policy excesses (up to £5K a year), a range of underwriting methods (full medical underwriting, standard and continued moratoria, and continued personal medical exclusions, the last two applying to switch business) and a non-compulsory, transparent no claims discount (with 15 levels offering up to 75% discount and with a starting point of 70%) based on the value of claims, and applying to each person covered separately. There is also an option to protect the NCD for an additional fee (although effectively this can only be used once to avoid going down the NCD scale) and the option to remove the NCD (and select a Community Rated premium structure at quote) for customers applying through Full Medical Underwriting or Standard Moratorium.
There is a choice of three hospital bands, all of which include some London hospitals.
Also part of the plan is a HealthWise app, launched in partnership with Square Health, which allows members to access digital health services and e-treatments. Through the app, members get instant access to GP on demand and second medical opinion services, together with physiotherapy and mental health specialist consultations using video. There is also a prescription delivery service. Members can access all HealthWise benefits without making a claim, so it will not impact any no claims discount.
What They Say
Head of sales, Karen Woodley, said: "At The Exeter we know how important it is that everyone has access to the healthcare they deserve, when they need it the most. We’ve taken a digital first approach to enable our customers to access the fastest possible diagnosis and best available treatment through their tablets and smartphones with the HealthWise app."
What We Say"The Exeter has had a long look at its old PMI plans and replaced them with a single multi-option plan.
"The plan follows the model of good core benefits for everyone and asking customers ton only pay for those extras they wanted to add. That makes sense and, if you add in the underwriting and hospital band options, there are various mechanisms available to tailor cost to budget.
"I’m not a great fan of no claims discounts but The Exeter’s route is both fair and optional (albeit with a high initial starting discount), so customers can choose whether to have an NCD and also to add an element of NCD protection if they wish. As with all NCDs though, regular claiming leads to very high premiums and the NCD protection is relatively limited.
"The HealthWise app is however a great example of how insurers can do more to give customers practical help to manage their health situations, even if that won’t lead to a ‘conventional’ claim.
"All in all it adds up to an attractive package with enough options to create a tailored solution, including numerus ways to limit cost."
