Cigna Africa is an international private medical insurance (iPMI) policy for expat employees of multinational companies with offices in Africa. It offers them Cigna’s local experience and facilities, global medical network and ongoing commitment to investments in Africa.
The plan offers a choice of five plans: CoreCare; StandardCare; EssentialCare; Executive Care, and EliteCare. The policies have maximum annual benefits that range from $50,000 per policy year (CoreCare) up to $6m per policy year (EliteCare).
Plans cover inpatient and outpatient treatment in a private room (but with limits on the three lowest cover plans), cancer treatment, chronic care, AIDS/HIV treatment and maternity care. Travel vaccinations and preventative medication e.g. against malaria, are also covered.
Standard or Extra dental and vision benefits can be added at extra cost, as can evacuation and repatriation benefit (with five cover options).
Customers can choose one of five geographic pricing areas of cover, with Region 5 having the highest cost. These are:
* Region 1. Africa.
* Region 2. Africa (including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh).
* Region 3. Europe (including Africa).
* Region 4. Worldwide excluding US, Canada and Caribbean.
* Region 5. Worldwide.
CoreCare and StandardCare only have the choice of Region 1 or 2 cover.
Claims are paperless and customers get informative personal webpages. There is also a Cigna Health Benefits app which gives quick and easy access to Cigna’s services 24/7 worldwide. A range of other services such as country guides, a second opinion service and health risk assessments are also available.
What They Say
Bart Jordens, General Manager International Organisations and Africa said: “Africa is an emerging economy, with significant growth of almost US$1,000bn over the last decade. This trend makes it an attractive expansion target for us.
"With our already existing infrastructure and experience in Africa, we are in a good position to give regional expats and key nationals a premium service.”
What We Say
"iPMI insurers' plans are now often market specific and Cigna’s latest plan is targeted at the huge and growing African market. In doing so, benefits have been optimised to meet local needs. Five plan types, two optional add-ons and five geographic pricing options enable cover to be tailored to need and budget. Many expats now work in more than one country or area and this plan can allow for that too.
"It adds up to a reassuring package – comprehensive, with a wide but not bewildering range of options so that choosing the right package should be (relatively) straightforward."
