Aetna International has launched Access US, a product aimed at helping any non-US headquartered company that currently has, or is hiring, American citizens based in the US.
Access US is an ACA-compliant medical product designed for organisations with 50 or more total employees worldwide. Only two employees need to be based in the US to implement a group plan and the plans are designed for companies with geographically dispersed employees located in the US.
The plans allow companies to place all their US employees in a single ACA (Affordable Care Act) compliant group plan with a simple composite rate structure. Nine standard plans are available for organisations of 2-20 enrolled US employees. Bespoke customisation is possible for organisations with more than 20 employees in the US. All plans have US benefits as well as international cover for out of country travel. Standard deductibles range from $0-$3,000 and cover can include dental and life insurance.
Access US is offered in conjunction with Total Benefit Solutions (TBS), which is a leading general agent for US domestic and international health insurance, and has partnered Aetna for over 18 years. Aetna says TBS’s knowledge of federal and state law, along with ACA rules and reporting, provides comprehensive support with compliance, administration, enrolment and ongoing service support of group benefit plans. The facility offered through TBS provides compliance and service assistance and also allows international brokers the opportunity to receive compensation where allowed by law for business referred and placed.
What They Say
Executive director - distribution Damian Lenihan said: “Access US has simplified a previously complex and costly problem; that of non-US companies providing standardised, yet comprehensive, international health insurance to their American employees based in the US. A number of our broker partners have proposed Access US to their clients and are seeing an encouraging take-up.”
What We Say
"The USA has long been very protective of its citizens so far as buying insurance is concerned, which can make life difficult for brokers when looking at international private medical insurance. Add in Obamacare (The Affordable Care Act) requirements and ensuring corporate clients get the right iPMI cover can be a real headache.
"Aetna International’s solution uses a partnership model and is aimed at meeting such needs and to also cover non-US workers. It’s a neat solution that offers a range of nine products so should cover most client needs."
