Sir Stewart Sutherland, chairman of the Royal Commission on Long Term Care, has urged anyone concerned about the future of LTC to write to their MP.
Speaking at the Baroness Seear Memorial Lecture, he described how this had lead to greater focus on LTC in Scotland after the Scottish health minister had been inundated with letters from concerned voters.
He said: “The fact that the government has not come up with answers has bottled up a lot of frustration making it harder and harder for it to offer a simple solution.” He added that the lack of a practical, principled and long term solution could result in strategic voting at the next general election.
The lecture, which was hosted by the Carers National Association, was sponsored by PPP lifetime care.
