A rehabilitation centre, which expects to treat stroke victims within 12 weeks, has been opened.
Newstart Rehabilitation Centre is situated within the Pentland Healthcare-owned Ashbourned nursing home in Surrey. The centre aims to restore optimum independence levels and has told insurers that it may reduce costs.
“Insurers are well aware of the added costs they bear when health services are neither quick nor efficient enough to prevent people languishing at home, often getting worse,” said Eleanor McCloud, centre coordinator at Newstart. “A well managed recovery process which enables the quickest and most effective return to work is what is needed but often lacking.”
The centre will combine skill and function based treatments with clinical and cognitive therapies. “Clients will have a rehabilitation programme designed specifically for them,” said McCloud. “And enabling a person to gain confidence and skills to get back to life reduces the likelihood of secondary health problems.”
