Partner Content (Bupa): Bupa offers the benefits of Babylon’s artificial intelligence

The content of this article has been supplied by Bupa Health Insurance and Babylon Health, a leading provider of digital healthcare services. More information is available here.

When you are ill, you want to see a doctor as quickly as possible. But trying to get through the doctor’s surgery and then waiting for an appointment can be frustrating, inconvenient and have consequences for your health. Now, if you’re a Bupa business client, your employees can have fast access to reliable health information and primary care, with Babylon’s AI-powered healthcare service.

Iain McMillan, Director of Intermediary Distribution at Bupa UK says, ‘We recognise that our clients’ employees lead extremely busy lives, and therefore long waiting times and inflexible GP appointments mean employees aren’t always able to access primary care as quickly as we’d like. The faster we can diagnose issues and get treatment to employees, often the better the outcomes are. Faster access to care is part of our core product offering at Bupa through our direct access services, our specialist cancer centres and our Anytime Healthline’.

Leading the way with AI

Babylon offers a host of innovative features, all geared to giving you more control over your health, and AI is the driving force behind it.

At the first sign of illness, you can quickly and easily check your symptoms by engaging with Babylon’s AI interface. This intuitive triage and symptom checker, created by experienced doctors and scientists, understands the symptoms you enter and provides you with immediate and relevant information. It can recognise the vast majority of healthcare issues seen in primary care and provide information on any next steps that need to be taken. In June 2018 Babylon published a study into the effectiveness of its AI technology. In this study, which was conducted under test conditions, it was found to perform with 80% accuracy.

If you need to consult with a doctor, you are able to book an appointment then and there, in the app. Just a few taps and you will be booking a video or audio consultation on your mobile, at a time that suits you, normally within two hours. No more waiting to see a doctor. No more travelling when you are feeling unwell. No more wasting time in crowded clinic waiting rooms.

Another handy feature for people short of time is the ability to have prescriptions delivered to your door. This means you can now be diagnosed by a doctor and get your medication* without having to leave your home – or your office. All in a matter of hours.

Babylon and Bupa – a partnership in good health

With faster access to primary care, more convenient GP appointments and easier ways to manage your health, Babylon’s innovative healthcare solution is now available to all Bupa business clients. For all new and renewing SME clients, Babylon is included as standard with all health insurance schemes.

Iain McMillan says, ‘Babylon were a natural fit to the rest of the initiatives we’re launching in the business and we’re confident we’ve partnered with the best in the market. Babylon gives employees access to GPs wherever and whenever they need it and we’ve made sure we offer unlimited appointments, so that employees can really feel the value of this service and ultimately, their health insurance. We know that only 25% of our health insurance customers claim on their policy each year and yet Babylon users are likely to book two appointments on average per year. We hope this will also help employees see the value in their employers’ schemes throughout the year, even if they don’t need treatment, and help our intermediaries sell in the return on investment more easily with their business clients’.
