David Hynam, Bupa UK’s chief executive, and Tony Wood, Mercer’s UK health leader, have made a list of the top 100 LBGT+ executives in the world.
Hynam is ranked seventh in the FT’s OUTstanding 100 LGBT+ Executives list, marking the second time he has been named in the top 10.
“At Bupa we know work is better when we create a positive working environment where everyone feels comfortable being their true self,” said Hynam. “Creating inclusive workplaces makes good business sense. It allows us to attract the right talent and it can help make work a more enjoyable place for everyone.”
Wood is listed at number 62 in the ranking compiled by OUTstanding, a not-for-profit professional network for LGBT executives and their allies.
Wood was nominated by Mercer’s own lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allies (LGBTA) employee network because of his efforts to ensure Mercer is an inclusive company and his activism for equal rights in the wider community.
“Equality and diversity among employees is vitally important for all businesses,” said Wood. “I am delighted to be recognised in the OUTstanding list alongside others who are promoting this cause, ensuring both Mercer and other businesses accurately reflect wider society.”
All of the 2018 role models were nominated by peers and colleagues. Nominations were then reviewed by OUTstanding’s judging panel.
Each person was scored on the seniority and influence of their role, their impact on LGBT+ inclusion inside and outside the workplace and their business achievements.
