12 December 2002: The Institute of Financial Services (IFS) is now offering BSc (Hons) degrees in financial services aimed at Associates of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII).
Any of the 11,000 ACII’s can now be awarded a BSc (Hons) degree in Financial Services awarded by the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST).
The advanced study programme has not previously been available to the insurance sector although it has been successful since 1996 with 3,000 students across the financial services industry achieving the qualification.
HSBC, HBOS, Lloyds TSB, Prudential, Pearl Assurance and Winterthur Life UK are supporters of the qualification.
IFS chief executive Gavin Shreeve said: “The launch of this new route has already generated a lot of interest largely because the BSc (Hons) offers an alternative, but established educational programme that provides underpinning skills to insurance and risk professionals.”
