The government has announced plans to set up 24 more pilot NHS dentistry schemes in October. These are part of the second phase of its drive to promote oral health. They will share £1.2m to meet their preparatory costs.
Proposed services include:
• Drop-in services for patients who are not registered with an NHS dentist
• Dental treatment for homeless people from a mobile clinic parked outside a hostel
• Integration of the General Dental Service and the Community Dental Service
• Alternative services with local guidelines and protocols for referrals, to benefit dental phobics.
