A firm of independent financial advisers (IFAs) has launched a new critical illness (CI) product for lesbian and gay couples, which does not require the individual to undergo a HIV test.
Underwritten by UnumProvident, the cover offers CI on a term basis up to £1m without the requirement of tests or intrusive lifestyle questionnaires.
Phil Carvosso, chairman of Carvosso & Co, said: “We deal specifically with the gay community, and because of the nature of a lesbian or gay relationship and their financial set up CI is ideal for Dinkies (Dual income, no kids). CI is more important to them than pure life cover.”
According to Carvosso, it has taken five years of research to get the product organised.
“The industry is very slow in coming forward. It’s common sense if people are that worried and claims are rising from AIDS and HIV,” he said.
